Please unban me. I just want to contribute

Welcome!

edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:14, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Formatting

edit

Hi, thank you for your contributions so far. Please check the edits on the pages you have created for some things to look out for in formatting entries. We have quite strict formatting rules, so please be a little more careful when you create future entries. Here are a few things to look out for:

  • Whitespace: please check WT:NORM for the normalization of entries. I think you're often using visual edit, which makes the formatting a little off based on our usual practice.
  • Pinyin should not have spaces between each syllable but should be spaced by "word" (you can check out Pinyin#Orthographic rules for some guidelines.
  • Links to Wikipedia can be made using {{w}} for words in definition lines and {{zh-wp}} for links that float on the side for extra reading.

Please do not ignore this. Continuing to make poorly formatted entries will be a burden on other editors. If this continues, I will take further action. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:29, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Example sentences

edit

Please do not take example sentences from elsewhere without citing. I've reverted those edits. Please see WT:CITE for details. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 00:15, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Reminder

edit

This is a reminder of a couple of points made by @Justinrleung above:

  • Example sentences should not be taken from elsewhere (e.g. in this diff).
  • Please do not add unnecessary spaces between pinyin syllables.
  • Please do read (if you haven't done so) WT:EL and WT:NORM for the layout and formatting of our entries. Entires like 做㾪氣 are problematic.

Additionally, please check if the part of speech is correct or not. – Wpi (talk) 09:30, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I want to contribute this community so please don’t ban me. I am trying my best. Help would be great. EmilyEmilyEmilyRoo (talk) 07:01, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Have you read through what we've told you here on this page? The edits you make don't seem to show any change based on what we've told you. What difficulties are there? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:08, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can I at least notify you if there is a Chinese word or sample sentence I would like translated? EmilyEmilyEmilyRoo (talk) 15:57, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
