Internationalization issues and Hebrew in particular

The Hebrew word for doubt is he:ספק. But the translation page cannot be given because the Hebrew-Wiktionary term leads back here on the English-Wiktionary to en:ספק. An entry in Hebrew (and Aramaic!) inside the English wiktionary!!

When I tried to enter the Hebrew translation correctly in doubt I received:

In any case, how can internationalization work per page, if there is a term that has several synonyms - multiple meanings but one spelling, it probably has a different word for each of the meanings, no?

You seem to be confused about the difference between translations and interwikis.

An interwiki is a cross-reference to an article for the same thing in another wiki. In this case, you would link to the article for doubt in the Hebrew Wiktionary, so that someone who spoke Hebrew could read an entry on the English word in their language.

A translation gives the equivalent to the term in another language. We have translation sections that link to the English-Wiktionary entries for the other-language terms (they also often contain interwiki-like links to other Wiktionaries). They're usually hidden, but if you click [show ▼], it will show them. We already have ספק as a translation for the noun. Is it also used as a verb with that spelling? If so, look below the list of translations for a way to add the translation without having to edit the page or figure out the formatting. Chuck Entz (talk) 16:25, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

No, I'm not confused. The English and Hebrew wiktionaries are confused. The English language wiktionary has parts written in Hebrew(!), and currently the Hebrew witionary links to those Hebrew parts in the English wiktionary.

The letters ספק can be read in Hebrew as SAPEK (supply, verb), SAFEK (doubt), SAPAK (supplier) or SAFAK (had clapped hands in dispair). The Hebrew wiktionary page has all meanings (and some more) listed on it. The interwiki links to a Hebrew lettered word in the English Wiki. So, if I understand correctly, your answer does not clarify the situation. Pashute (talk) 15:42, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Starting votes in unusual places without a previous Beer parlour discussion is a poor idea, especially for an editor with 1 mainspace edit. Please make your proposals in Beer parlour and discuss it there with other editors. Then you'll get a first impression of how much support the proposal has or whether the proposal can be modified to be supportable.

Wiktionary talk:Wikisaurus

I have reverted your recent posts to Wiktionary talk:Wikisaurus, as they included copying my post around, awkwardly striking a heading and the like. I do not intend to remove the substance of what you have posted from the page. Using the page history, you should be able to post it again. But please, post it to the bottom of the current thread there somewhere in the "Vote for inline thesaurus section on each term" section, without striking anything, so that the posts follow a natural sequence from earlier to later. If you want to have the vote retracted, I will do it for you in a way that does not make the page look so badly messy. Nonetheless, I think you should better discuss this in Beer parlour, as your proposal seems to impact the main namespace (pages like cat as opposed to WS:cat) beyond what we currently do there as per WT:ELE. --Dan Polansky (talk) 02:52, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

To make it clear what you propose, I think you should take e.g. page cat, copy it to User:Pashute/cat or the like, and modify the copy in your user page to show what sort of changes to the page you envision. Notice that, for cat, the corresponding Wikisaurus entries are WS:cat and WS:man, both linked from cat#Synonyms section. If cat is not an entry that can best show what you have in mind, you can of course choose another one. --Dan Polansky (talk) 19:09, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
