Redirects edit

We do not use redirects on Wiktionary. Each spelling gets an entry of its own. --EncycloPetey 20:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. It's becoming very clear Wiktionary is like no other Wikimedia project. Are some exceptions? I looked at WT:REDIR which says "Redirects are acceptable, but strongly discouraged" regarding the hyphenated words. (That was after I made the redirect of course :). Also, is it common practice to respond on user pages when they ask questions on WT:ID and similar discussion boards? Should I be writing this on your talk page? Thanks. Welcome edit

Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!

Please don't let our weird ways discourage you. Wiktionary has evolved to be different in many ways from other WMF projects, it seems. I have found it more interesting than WP. There are a lot of ways of doing things that are different from other projects, perhaps needlessly different, and many things are not documented. We can use all the help we can get, though, and would be happy to assist you in finding ways to help that you might find interesting. DCDuring TALK 01:06, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{rfdrawing}} edit

I have created a category and template for the requests. I'll broadcast availability in a day or sooner. DCDuring TALK 21:32, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Awesome! Thank you! I'll be keeping an eye on the category. Going to go image hunting now. Rocket000 21:44, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

General formatting edit

Hello there, just a quick note to give you some pointers on formatting: you might want to have a look at some changes I have made to the articles relative density, relative densities, isoprenes etc. after your edits. A few tweaks were required to bring them in-line with the general standard format for enties (see WT:ELE). Keep up the contributions as they a very much welcomed, regards --Williamsayers79 07:20, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
