Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to one of the discussion rooms or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

One note: We don;t permit interwiki links on Template pages because it slows the server. If you want to link templates across projects, please do so on the template Talk page rather than the template itself. --EncycloPetey 08:45, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Malayalam help edit

Could you please add the Malayalam script for the translations of parrot and listen? Right now, those pages have only the transliteration into Latin script. Thanks, --EncycloPetey 08:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Please look at how I formatted your additions. A transcription into Roman letters should follow the Malayalam script. We do this because many of our users are not familiar with the Malayalam script and cannot pronounce it. We also do this because many users do not have a Malayalam font on their computer, so the script appears as a series of boxes. The transcritption allows all users to at least see something about the word when this problem occurs. --EncycloPetey 09:11, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Do you mean that you want to add a Malayalam word here, on the English Wiktionary? Or do you want to add words on the Malayalam Wiktionary? They are two different places. I can show you how to write simple pages here, but the Malayalam wiktionary is entirely in Malayalam and I cannot help with that. --EncycloPetey 09:17, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah, you would like some model pages for complete English entries? I have started a short list of model entries, linked from my User page. They are of various kinds. Some will remain short pages, others are very long and may grow longer. Is this what you wanted?
The List of basic English words may also help, but some of these pages are not in very good shape. --EncycloPetey 09:29, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
