Inherited from Ottoman Turkish آغرلمق (ağırlamak, to treat with marks of respect, to become heavy),[1] from Proto-Turkic *iagïrla- (to honor, to serve), from Proto-Turkic *iagïr- (heavy),[2][3] equivalent to ağır +‎ -la +‎ -mak.
