From Javanese ꦕꦺꦭꦺꦁ (cèlèng, “wild boar, piggy bank”), from Old Javanese celeṅ (“pig, boar”), probably from Austroasiatic Proto-Mon-Khmer *liik, *lik (“pig”) (compare to Old Mon cliṅ (“pig”)). Cognate with Balinese ᬘᬾᬮᬾᬂ (céléng, “pig”).
