From Javanese ꦕꦺꦭꦺꦁ (cèlèng, wild boar, piggy bank), from Old Javanese celeṅ (pig, boar), probably from Austroasiatic Proto-Mon-Khmer *liik, *lik (pig) (compare to Old Mon cliṅ (pig)). Cognate with Balinese ᬘᬾᬮᬾᬂ (céléng, pig).
