Akin to Old High German tāen (“to suck”) (Middle High German tīen, dīen (“to suck, suckle”), Swedish dägga, dia (“to suckle”), Danish dægge, die (“to suckle”), Gothic 𐌳𐌰𐌳𐌳𐌾𐌰𐌽 (daddjan, “suckle”), Old English delu (“nipple”), Old English dā (“doe”).
