  1. (zoology) Any of a group of South American blood-sucking bats of the genera Desmodus and Diphylla.

  1. (zoology) Of hinge teeth: having a large ligamentous resilifer (or chondrophore) which replaces the cardinal teeth.
    Synonym: asthenodont
