From Malay kebun, from Old Javanese kĕbon, kĕbwan (garden, plantation) (compare to Javanese ꦏꦼꦧꦺꦴꦤ꧀ (kebon, garden, plantation)), affixed form of bwah, wwah (fruit) (compare Indonesian buah (fruit)). Doublet of kebon.
