From Malay mewah. Compare to Temiar eniwoh (“festivity, commemoration, celebration”), Javanese ꦲꦺꦮꦸꦃ (éwuh, “busy”), Old Javanese ewuh, ewĕh, iwĕh, iwö (“difficult; to have as an object of care, have at heart, mind”).
