- (pathology) Sclerosis of the tissues of the labyrinth and middle ear.
- (pathology) Loss of hearing due to injury of the auditory nerve by certain drugs and poisons, such as quinine and tobacco.
- (pathology) Loss of the ability to understand the spoken word, although the sound is heard.
