Etymology edit

12th century in Latin documents. From Arabic رَغَائِف (raḡāʔif), plural of رَغِيفَة (raḡīfa, loaf), colloquial variant of رَغِيف (raḡīf, loaf).[1] Cognate with Portuguese regueifa and Spanish regaifa.
