From kep. Beside shqep, an Albanian formation with the intensive prefix sh-, from Proto-Albanian *skaipa. Compare Old Norse skífa (“to split”), Old Frisian skīvia (“to divide”) and perhaps English shape.
A parallel form is shkrep, continuing Proto-Albanian *krepa (“body”), cognate to Sanskrit कृप् (ḱṛp, “shape, beautiful appareance”), Latin corpus (“body”), Old High German hrēf (“belly”). Similar sense development in Germanic (compare Gothic galeiks (galeiks, “like”), from leik (leik, “body”)).
