Etymology
editUnknown. It may be borrowed from Old Church Slavonic съто (sŭto), from Proto-Slavic *sъto. Otherwise, it may have descended from a substratum term, or an unknown satem language, in any case ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm (“hundred”). Also found in Aromanian cognate, Aromanian sutã (alongside its inherited term tsentu, otherwise not found in Romanian).
