editFrom Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tiktik (“to tap, strike lightly”), from Proto-Austronesian *tiktik (“to tap, strike lightly”) (cf. Cebuano tiktik (“to tap lightly”), Indonesian titek (“heavy pounding blow; to rap”), Ilocano tiktik (“sound of striking metal against stone”). See also tiktik.
