editFrom Ottoman Turkish طاقردی (taḳırdı, “a repeated tapping or knocking noise”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish طاقر (taḳır, “onomatopoeic for; a knocking sound, a tap”), from Ottoman Turkish طاق (taḳ, “a knocking sound”),[2] from Proto-Turkic *takïr- (“onomatopoeic for; sound of a horseshoe or repeated hard knocks”),[3] morphologically tak + -ır + -tı.
