Etymology edit

From transseksa (transgender; transsexual) +‎ -eco (-ness), from trans- (across) +‎ sekso (gender, sex) +‎ -a.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): [transseksˈet͡so]
  • Audio:
    (file)
  • Rhymes: -et͡so
  • Hyphenation: trans‧seks‧e‧co

Noun edit

transsekseco (accusative singular transseksecon, plural transseksecoj, accusative plural transseksecojn)

  1. the state of being transgender; transgenderism; transgenderness.
  2. (medicine) transsexuality; gender dysphoria.

Usage notes edit

Many transgender people prefer the neologism transgenreco, while others consider that an anglicism, noting that the earliest notable monolingual Esperanto dictionary by Kazimierz Bein gave two definitions of the word sekso, one biological and one social.
