From Uralic *uje- ‎(swim) +‎ -ik. Cognates include Finnish uida, Estonian ujuma, Mansi уй ‎(uj), Khanty ӱй- ‎(üj-). Probably, the word has connection with Mongolian and Tungusic as well.[1][2]
