Substantivized neuter of adjective αλιευτικός (alieftikós)[1] by ellipsis of neuter noun σκάφος (skáfos, “vessel”). As in Ancient Greek expression ἁλιευτικόν (halieutikón) πλοῖον (ploîon) "fishing vessel",[2] from ἁλιευτικός (halieutikós, “of or pertaining to fishing”), derived from ἁλιεύω (halieúō, “I fish”), derived from ἁλιεύς (halieús, “fisherman”), derived from ἅλς (háls, “salt; sea”).
