Etymology

From Byzantine Greek μαζεύω (mazeúō) from Hellenistic Ancient Greek ὁμαδεύω (homadeúō, to collect), from ὁμάς (homás, the whole), from ὁμός (homós, common, same). Adapted to μαζί (mazí, together)[1] and μᾶζα (mâza, barley-bread)[2] by folk etymology.
