Etymology

edit

The lemma has parallels in other Slavic languages (Serbo-Croatian пѝшати, Russian пи́сать (písatʹ), Ukrainian пі́сяти (písjaty)), however, no common reconstruction can be drawn for all of them. Either of onomatopoeic origin or a wandering word, ultimately of Romanic provenance (cf. Old French pissier whence also English piss).
