Etymology edit

From с- (s-) +‎ виждам (viždam, to see), with a similar semantic shift to seeto attend (in order to see)to visit, meet as in Russian свида́ться (svidátʹsja) and Latin vīsitō.

Formally an intensive/frequentative form of Bulgarian сви́дя се (svídja se, to be stingy, to be attracted to), however, semantically separate.

сви́ждам (svíždam) first-singular present indicativeimpf

  1. (transitive) to visit
  2. (reflexive with се) to meet (after having an appointing to do so)
    Synonym: срещам (sreštam)
