Etymology

Borrowed from Urartian 𒄩𒅈𒄩𒀀𒊒 (ḫa-ar-ḫa-a-ru /⁠ḫarḫar-⁠/, to be destroyed or damaged).[1][2][3][4] First compared to the Urartian word by Sandalgian.[5]

  1. (transitive) to shake, to shatter, to demolish, to ruin, to destroy
    խարխարել զվէրսxarxarel zvērsto tear open healing wounds; (figuratively) to irritate, to excite anew
    խարխարել զմիտսxarxarel zmitsto vacillate, to waver
  2. (transitive) to deteriorate, to hurt, to corrupt
  3. (transitive) to renew pain or grief
    խարխարել զդժնակութիւնxarxarel zdžnakutʻiwnto renew one's griefs
  4. (mediopassive, intransitive) to fall to ruin or decay, to perish
