From *հանգ (*hang, breath, rest), compare dialectal հանգ (hang), from Proto-Armenian *hangi-, from Proto-Indo-European *sm̥-kʷih₁-, from *sm̥- + *kʷyeh₁-, +‎ -չ- (-čʻ-).
