Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *porḱos (fishing), with the only surviving cognate being Ancient Greek πόρκος (pórkos, fishing net). The sense of “fishing” must have become more general in Armenian. Dialectal հորս (hors) still preserves the initial *p-.
