Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀳𑀽 (vahū), 𑀯𑀥𑀽 (vadhū), from Sanskrit वधू (vadhū́).[1] First attested in c. 1609 as Middle Hindi بهو (bhv /⁠bahū⁠/).[2]
