Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tokïmak (club, mallet),[1] perhaps a derivation from *tokï- (to hit, strike).

طوقماق (tokmak) (definite accusative طوقماغی (tokmağı), plural طوقماقلر (tokmaklar))

  1. large wooden rod for pestle, used in conjunction with a large mortar of stone called دیبك (dibek)
  2. mallet, beetle, a type of hammer with a larger-than-usual head made of wood, used for driving a tool
  3. knocker, doorknocker, a device, usually hinged with a striking plate, used for knocking on a door
  4. (firearms) hammer, a moving part of a firearm that strikes the firing pin to discharge a gun
