Etymology edit

From the root ܫ-ܒ-ܚ (š-b-ḥ) related to praising; compare Arabic سَبْح (sabḥ) and Hebrew שֶׁבַח (šéḇaḥ). The sense of "opinion" is a calque of Ancient Greek δόξα (dóxa).
