Etymology

Compare Punjabi ਢੱਕਣਾ (ḍhakkaṇā), Bengali ঢাকা (ḍhaka), Assamese ঢকা (dhoka). All these forms originate from Prakrit *𑀠𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆 (ḍhakk), "lid", ultimately from a non-Indo-Aryan substrate.

Related to ढक्कन (ḍhakkan, cap, cover, lid).
