Borrowed from Persian دل(del), from Proto-Iranian *jŕ̥dayam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ʰŕ̥dayam. Cognate with Avestan 𐬰𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬛𐬁(zərədā), Sanskrit हृदय (hṛ́daya).
