Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀸𑀭𑁂𑀇 (pārei), from Sanskrit पारयति (pārayati, to cross, finish, accomplish), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pāráyati, from Proto-Indo-European *por-éye-ti, causative form of *per- (to carry forth, fare). Doublet of পার (par, further side, bank, coast).
