Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀁𑀥𑁂𑀇 (raṃdhei), from Sanskrit रन्धयति (randhayati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *randʰáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *londʰ-éye-ti. Cognate with Sylheti ꠞꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (randá), Assamese ৰন্ধা (rondha), Odia ରାନ୍ଧିବା (rāndhibā), Gujarati રાંધવું (rā̃dhvũ) and Marathi रांधणे (rāndhṇe). Doublet of রান্না (ranna).
