Inherited from Gurjar Apabhramsa अंडउं (aṃḍaüṃ), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀟 (aṃḍa), from Sanskrit अण्डम् (aṇḍam), nominative singular neuter of अण्ड (aṇḍa). Doublet of અંડ (aṇḍa, testicle, ovum). Cognate with Hindustani انڈا / अंडा (aṇḍā), Konkani अंडें (aṇḍẽ), Marathi अंडे (aṇḍe), Sindhi آنو / आनो (āno).
