Inherited from Old Gujarati हउं (haũ), from Gurjara Apabhramsa हउं (haũ), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀳𑀁 (ahaṃ), from Sanskrit अहम् (aham), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *aźʰám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *aȷ́ʰám, from Proto-Indo-European *éǵHóm. Cognate with Marwari हूं (hū̃) and Braj हौं (ha͠u).
