EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Tai *soːŋᴬ, from Middle Chinese (MC ʃˠʌŋ, “two”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩈᩬᨦ, Lao ສອງ (sǭng), ᦉᦸᧂ (ṡoang), Tai Dam ꪎꪮꪉ, Shan သွင် (sǒang), Tai Nüa ᥔᥩᥒᥴ (soang1), Ahom 𑜏𑜨𑜂𑜫 (song), Zhuang song.

NumeralEdit

สอง (sɔ̌ɔng)

  1. 2 (Thai numeral: (2))

Usage notesEdit

When "two" is at the position of tens, use ยี่ (yîi) as ยี่สิบ (yîi-sìp) instead. There was suggestion to read "two" in a phone number as โท (too), to distinguish from สาม (sǎam), due to dated low-quality voicing technology.
