From Sanskrit आत्मा (ātmā, self). Cognate with Thai อาตมะ; Old Khmer ʼātmā (self; soul), Modern Khmer អាត្មា (ʼaatmaa). Compare Pali attā, from which Thai อัตตา (àt-dtaa) is derived.
