Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ˀjiətᴰᴸ³ (to stretch), from Proto-Tai *ˀjiətᴰ. Cognate with Northern Thai ᩀ᩠ᨿᨯ, Lao ຢຽດ (yīat), ᦵᦊᧆᧈ (ẏed¹), Shan ယဵတ်ႇ (yàet), Tai Nüa ᥕᥤᥖ (yit), ᥕᥪᥖ (yuet), Zhuang iet, Nong Zhuang ed, Zuojiang Zhuang yied.
