From Proto-Southwestern Tai *bɛːŋᴬ² (expensive), from Proto-Tai *beːŋᴬ (expensive). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨻᩯ᩠ᨦ, Lao ແພງ (phǣng), ᦶᦗᧂ (paeng), Shan ပႅင်း (péng), Zhuang bengz, Nong Zhuang biangz or byangz. Compare Sui mbingl (expensive).
