ამბავი
Georgian
editEtymology
editFrom Middle Georgian ამბავი (ambavi), from Old Georgian ჰამბავი (hambavi), ამბავი (ambavi) (latter less common), most probably from Old Armenian համբաւ (hambaw, “reputation, name, fame; rumour; report; tidings”), because of the ჰ (h) at the beginning of a Georgian word, which was not standard for a Georgian noun. Compare ასაკი (asaḳi). Ultimately of Iranian origin; see the Armenian word for more.
