Etymology edit

From Old Georgian წაბლი (c̣abli), from Proto-Kartvelian *c̣₁ab- (chestnut). Cognate with Mingrelian ჭუბური (č̣uburi), Laz ჭუბური (ç̌uburi, chestnut). According to Fähnrich, Svan cognate can be extracted from ჭუბერი (č̣uberi, toponym name in Svaneti).[1][2] See Svan ჰებრა (hebra, cherry) for more.

Armenian ճղոպուր (čġopur, walnut) is a Zan borrowing.
