Etymology

Stem ἀγωνισ- from verb ἀγωνίζομαι (agōnízomai) + -τικός (-tikós), from ᾰ̓γών (agṓn, competition).[1] Morphologically, ἀγωνιστ(ής) (agōnist(ḗs), combatant, competitor) +‎ -ικός (-ikós).
