In Hokkien, when used as a verb to express an ability to understand a language, see 聽有听有 (thiaⁿ-ū / thiaⁿ-ǔ, “to understand by listening”), 會講会讲 (ē-kóng / ě-kóng, “to be able to speak”), 會讀会读 (ē-tha̍k / ě-tha̍k, “to know how to read”), or 會曉學会晓学 (ě-hiáu-o̍h, “to know how to imitate or do something”). To convey an understanding of a meaning or a situation, see 明白 (bêng-pe̍k / bêng-pia̍k / bêng-pe̍h / mêng-pe̍k). To convey awareness or knowledge about something, see 知影 (chai-iáⁿ) or (chai).
