Etymology
editFrom 軍 (gun, “military”) + 手 (te, “hand”). Short for 軍用手袋 (gun'yō tebukuro, literally “gloves for military use”)[1][2] or 軍隊手袋 (guntai tebukuro, literally “military gloves”),[3] due to pioneering usage by the Japanese navy.
