  1. A taxonomic species within the family Amaryllidaceae – desert onion, desert garlic, growing on silty soils of the Middle East up to 20 cm tall in total height, an oblong up to 3 cm thick bulb prized by desert-dwellers, at the most 2 mm thin linear leaves, and greenish-white umbellar buds of 4–50 rays with each having an incarnadine vein terminating in a flower.
