From Italian Gallipoli, from Turkish and late variant forms of Byzantine Greek Καλλίπολις (Kallípolis, Callipolis), from the combining form of Ancient Greek κάλλος (kállos, beauty, beautiful) + πόλις (pólis, city, city-state). Doublet of Gelibolu, Callipolis, and Kallipolis.
