Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/sīką
Proto-Germanic
editEtymology
editUnknown. Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *seygʷ-, variant of *seykʷ- (“to pour out; gush; stream; flow; trickle”) (whence *sīhwaną (“to percolate, filter”) and *saiwiz (“sea”)), from *sey- (“to be wet; dribble; run”), but the delabialization would be unexpected.
