@Per_utramque_cavernam: Hello. It's a bad move, please move back to п'яны and other terms you have moved. We use normal apostrophes only. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:00, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- Repeating the ping: @Per_utramque_cavernam, in case you missed it. The use of apostrophes in headwords at Wiktionary applies not only to Belarusian but Ukrainian, French, etc. I see you have moved quite a few entries. I'm not sure where were the original discussions but the language policy said ', not ’ before you changed it. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:00, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Atitarev: Hello. In that last version of the transliteration policy before my edits, the table was definitely giving the curved apostrophe ’ (it's true that both were mentioned below, though). Moreover, a few entries were already using the curved apostrophe: Дар’я (Darʺja), з’яўляцца (zʺjaŭljacca), з’явіцца (zʺjavicca), Соф’я (Sófʺja).
- I chose the curved apostrophe because I thought it was the correct one from an orthotypographic standpoint. According to the WP article (I'd like a more official source, but it's better than nothing), the straight one is used only out of convenience in computing contexts. But I don't think convenience is a good enough reason, especially now that MediaWiki has some kind of built-in support: mw:Extension:Cognate. I'm not sure exactly what that entails, though; please let me inquire into that.
- So I can do the moves back if you're absolutely positive that's the right way to proceed, but I'd like to be sure.
- Btw, I'd definitely support using the curved apostrophes for French. Orthotypography is important. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 09:51, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Per utramque cavernam: The English Wiktionary uses U+0027 while the French Wiktionary uses U+2019. It is not a difference of orthography but of policy. Here on the English Wiktionary you shouldn’t move п'яны to п’яны. — TAKASUGI Shinji (talk) 12:15, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- @TAKASUGI Shinji, Atitarev: All right, I've moved the four remaining entries above as well. Still, I think a change in policy would be welcome, because I don't see any compelling reason to keep using the straight apostrophe. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 13:46, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
