Rfv-sense: "(South Korea) North Korea". @Wyang. Dokurrat (talk) 18:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Dokurrat: North Koreans call the whole of Korea and their country (without contrasting North and South) 조선 (朝鮮, Joseon). A similar phenomenon happens in South Korea with the term 한국 (韓國, Han'guk). Since both South Koreans and North Koreans know what the other side calls Korea, this usage is understandable. Compare to how 國語/国语 (guóyǔ) is used to refer to the Taiwanese variety of Mandarin (rather than just "Mandarin") by Chinese from mainland China. --Anatoli T. - @Atitarev: Do you have attestions to prove your claim? If what you've said is true, it shouldn't be very hard to attest. Dokurrat (talk) 05:47, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Dokurrat: This would require some efforts from me but I have no reason not to trust Wyang's edit in diff. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:03, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Dokurrat, Atitarev (Did I miss the ping...?) please see no.3. Wyang (talk) 06:11, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: Is this sense really used in South Korea's lanugage? I cannot rule out a possibility: The difinition in Daum.net is an explanation of North Korea's term of self-address, which is not used in South Korea. Dokurrat (talk) 06:27, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- I think you make a good point - it is an abbreviation of the full name in both North and South Korea. Wyang (talk) 10:12, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: Would you like to check the citations I just put here? Dokurrat (talk) 21:10, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: And, should the label of the sense 4 be changed too? Dokurrat (talk) 21:21, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Dokurrat The cites look good to me! I don't think the label of sense #4 should really be changed. The name Joseon is used chiefly in North Korea to refer to Korea as a whole. Wyang (talk) 10:30, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: I was thinking about the name of 조선일보, which I think is of sense #4; maybe we could add a "chiefly" to the label? Dokurrat (talk) 10:46, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Dokurrat Ya okay, I added it. Wyang (talk) 10:47, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
