Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 03:57, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, dear Lo Ximiendo! --Itar buttar (talk) 04:10, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's a pleasure to have someone who may have knowledge of the Punjabi language; maybe to me anyway, as I wish that the presence of both the Punjabi and Oriya languages (maybe Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Sinhalese, too) have some love just like the kind that the Telugu language got from Rajasekhar. Did you ever take a peek at Category:Requests (Punjabi)? I made my first two edits at the Punjabi Wiktionary. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 07:31, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I checked you made, thanks for your contributions! You're always welcome for any help there. And I'll check the requested enteries. :-) --Itar buttar (talk) 09:32, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Category:Punjabi templates edit

If you wish to make good Punjabi-language entries, have a look at that category (and {{IPA}}); feel free to consult the Grease Pit for any questions about templates. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 11:35, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

ਅੱਖ for eye? edit

An anon (anonymous I.P. address user) made that contribution. Should we trust that word? (Another side-note: which Punjabi word is better for Sikkim, ਸਿੱਕਮ, ਸਿਕਿਮ, or both?) --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 12:47, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello dear! ਅੱਖ is absolutly correct for eye. And for the state both the words, ਸਿੱਕਮ and ਸਿਕਿਮ, are in use but the most trusted, and only of its kind, encyclopedia of Punjabi, Mahan Kosh has the spellings ਸਿਕਿਮ. --Itar buttar (talk) 15:06, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Babelbox expansion with/for Punjabi edit

Would you like to fill in the red links of Wiktionary:Babel's Punjabi section (ur-3 for Urdu-3, too?)? Be sure to read the instructions that are shown there. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 13:14, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Okay, please wait a little... --Itar buttar (talk) 15:07, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
But please tell me using which script they should be created as there are two scripts used for writing Punjabi, Gurmukhi (in East Punjab) and Shahmukhi (in West Punjab)? Wikipedia has the templates in English, I think (plz check). Please guide, I'm about to create them. --Itar buttar (talk) 15:25, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think both scripts and both languages are okay (but still, I think the WT:Grease pit is okay). Have an example look at {{User pa}}; you may forgive me since I copied the Gurmukhi text from Wikipedia. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 15:34, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
P.s. I premade Category:User pa-N. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 15:39, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
