Welcome

edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Fytcha (talk) 20:34, 28 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Patsho Khiamniungan

edit

Hey, I see you cite this dictionary in your Khiamniungan entries. Is this the ongoing project? Thadh (talk) 19:38, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes this is ongoing project. I am not sure if i am allowed to do so on wiktionary. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 19:43, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure that's a good idea. The thing is, an unpublished source is as unverifiable as no source. Are there any other references you could give to verify the terms you've already created? Thadh (talk) 19:52, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

The publication of the said dictionary may delay but i am aware that it is about to complete. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 19:46, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

To be honest, some sentences of my entries are exactly the same as in the ongoing dictionary project and some are modified as per my knowledge. Please let me know if anything of my contribution is improper. Thanks Khunou S Longshe (talk) 19:53, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have no such idea to verify the terms of what I have created. Above all, I am new to wiktionary and still in the process of learning for more accurate contribution. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 19:59, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

As long as you doublecheck there's no error in the data, it's okay. By the way, should Āōk Kam and Theumei start on an uppercase letter? Wiktionary is lettercase-sensitive, so it's important to make a distinction there. For the rest, see the changes User:Fytcha and User:Justinrleung have made, but overall your contributions seem fine. It's good to have you here, welcome! Thadh (talk) 20:02, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

It should start wit the lowercase. (āōk kam and theumei) It seems like I can't edit anymore. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 20:09, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean by "can't edit anymore"? Do you get a message when clicking "publish"? Thadh (talk) 20:17, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. Consider me as your student. One thing, please help us develop this "Patsho Khiamniungan Dictonary" for much more acceptable language. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 20:24, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

May I know how to add audio please. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 20:27, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

See Wiktionary:Audio and Help:Audio pronunciations. Thadh (talk) 20:28, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou so much. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 20:29, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

As I am adding some entries as exactly in the ongoing dictionary project, I want to know if that may affect the publication of the Dictionary. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 19:34, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

As far as Wiktionary and Wikimedia Foundation are concerned, no. However, you may want to bring it up with your project, because there might be problems there, particularily from the publisher's side. Thadh (talk) 20:53, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Two questions. One: is the character "?" a letter? If not, what do you mean with it? And second, ?noin (it is the short form of noi nye) is not a valid title. It should either be noin or ?noin (I'm still not sure if ? should signify a letter or that you're not certain). If you're not certain of a word, please don't add it. Thadh (talk) 21:59, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is also possible that ʔ (glottal stop character) was intended. 70.175.192.217 22:03, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

If there is a possibility of problem, i want to delete all my contributions and let the dictionary publish in the first place. Please helo me delete all those entries thanks. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 13:59, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please help me delete all of my contributions and let the dictionary publish first. I will contribute thereafter. Thanks Khunou S Longshe (talk) 14:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

When you publish entries on Wiktionary, you are agreeing to release the content, and that cannot be undone. We only delete entries if they are incorrect or do not belong in a dictionary, which does not appear to be the case for yours. There is no problem on our end; you should confer with your publisher if they have a problem with this. If they do not, then you have nothing to worry about. Also, please respond to the question above about whether ? is a letter. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:03, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please delete the the glottal stop character from those entries. Thanks. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 01:56, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Or it is better to remove the entries with glottal stop character so that i can re-enter those once the correction is done. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 03:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am so sorry for adding the words which i am not certain at all. Entries with this character "?" may be removed, you can see on my contribution list, its three of them. I apologize for that. Khunou S Longshe (talk) 09:54, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
